We use OptiPlex 7010 Ultra Small FF desktops in the exam rooms and shared nurse areas. The doctors wanted desk phones in each exam room also so the desktops sit on a counter and the phones are wall mounted nearby. This does result in the doctor facing the computer instead of the patient, but they enter or dictate mostly after the patient leaves. The doctors also have their own laptops/tablets (their choice; we have some Macbooks, a Dell Ultrabook, and a few iPads) with Citrix that they use in their offices, during hospital rounds, and/or at home.
We thought for sure that more doctors would take tablets into the exam rooms but they don't. Our EMR is kind of a pain to type in through the Citrix app so tablets are used more for viewing information and hitting the "approve" button when necessary. Tablets never really took off with the...
